We’re through the first week of our Win a Free DJ Contest, and so far it’s going great. We’ve seen a ton of participation and it’s been great to read all your wonderful stories! For the rest of this week, the voting will continue and on Sunday (2/26) at midnight, we’ll end voting and the three top couples will move on to the final round of voting. This video was the work of a ton of different vendors, but the main thanks must go to Heart Stone Films for their shooting, directing and co-writing. What an amazing, talented couple. Other shout-outs go to our actors Nick Karner (DJ Nicky G), Kailey Branham (bride), Billy Godley (groom), George Mayo (best man), and Gilson Thornhill (maid of honor). They all did a fantastic job. Lastly, it would have never looked like a reception without the following companies being involved: Cobblestone Hall (venue), Fresh Affairs (decor/flowers), Swank Cakes, Savvi Formalwear (tuxes), Lana Addison (bride’s gown), Shane Snider (photography), and Makeupforyourday. At last night’s Triangle NACE Awards, we received two awards. Best Entertainment at an Event (voted on by the Charlotte chapter of NACE) and Event Professional of the Year (as voted on by our wedding peers). We are truly honored! Rocky and Jennifer’s winter wedding was at the incomparable Fearrington Village in what they call “The Barn”. But when you see my iPhone photos here, you’ll see that this place as hardly a barn…it was gorgeous! The couple was married in the Garden Terrace and then made their way over to the barn for cocktails and the treat of the John Brown Quintet. If you’ve never seen John, you’re missing out. This guy knows jazz! Heck, he’s a professor of music at Duke!

As cocktail hour was winding down, I went out to the entrance to line up the bridal party and noticed that all of the men and the groom were U.S. Marines! Awesome and now I’m impressed. I gotta learn more. Not only Marines, but Rocky is basically like Jeremy Renner’s character in “Hurt Locker” (google it if you haven’t seen it). He disarms bombs for a living! Unbelievable and a true hero. And let me mention also how AMAZING Jennifer looked as well in her beautiful dress. The bridal party entered the room to cheers and Hoo Ahhs (Marines will get that), and then the new couple took to the dance floor to “She’s Everything” by Brad Paisley. As soon as their dance was over, the father of the bride gave a lovely welcome and Rev. John Oliver blessed dinner. The next part is almost unbelievable…I got to eat dinner, which was fantastic by the way. John Brown covered the dinner music while I enjoyed!

As dinner ended, we heard some amazing toasts, cut the cake and then Jennifer and her dad danced to “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong, then Rocky and his mom danced to “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts. Then you know what time it was? Time to dance! I started out with some classic wedding songs and oldies (but stayed away from the line dances). That got the party started, but it really took off when I played LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem”. It went so well that first they extended for a half hour, and then another hour. They were having a blast and left after a rousing rendition of “Jump Around” and “Making Memories of Us” by Keith Urban. The sparkler sendoff was the perfect ending. I am so excited to see the photos from Dara Blakeley and the video genius of Heart Stone Films.

Carolina Inn Bridal Showcase-January 30th, 2012

Yesterday was the big day that many of us have been planning for months…the Carolina Inn Bridal Showcase! This is the premiere bridal show in the Triangle and it only happens once a year, and the vendors are GREAT because it’s invite only! These are the cream of the crop!

The day began early at 11am so that the brides that had already booked The Carolina Inn could get “first look” and the first of the food! At 1:00, the doors opened to the public, and the first fashion show with dresses from Alexia’s began. This was the first year that they’ve done a live fashion show. The food, which is normally in the Old Well Room, was moved outside to a tent and the Old Well Room was transformed into a runway. The staff at the Carolina Inn and several top vendors were responsible for pulling off the show. Rick Bryda with Total Production Services did the runway and lighting and it rivaled a New York fashion show. Neil Boyd was our photographer and Heart Stone Films our videographer. Urban Fringe did the hair and makeup, and of course, we provided the audio. The dresses and models looked amazing (I was blown away by the black Vera Wang gown at the end)! Looking forward to seeing the photos and video.

After the show, I went back to our booth which was a rustic display which we have been using for many years at this show. It is three old doors with the paint popping off of them and our logo crackle painted on the middle one. There are also about 60 flowers hanging from little glass holders all over them. It sounds nuts, but it’s the perfect setup for this show. We had tons of compliments on them. Not only did we see many new brides, but we saw SO MANY of our 2012 brides that have already booked us. That makes you feel GREAT! This was really a great bridal show, probably the Carolina Inn’s best!

Genworth Annual Sales Meeting-January 25th, 2012

Last week I was all over the place! On Wednesday, I did a corporate gig at the lovely Renaissance Hotel in North Hills in Raleigh, NC. This was the annual sales gala for Genworth Financial. My role was to play music for the arrival of the guests, during dinner, and also for “bumpers” as the award winners made their way to the stage. I had a ton of fun doing that, but after all of the awards were given out, it was time to dance! The requests came flooding in-everything from LMFAO to “I Will Survive” What a mix of decades! The other neat thing about this event was that I took a box full of old mix CDs. People came up, made a donation to a charity, and then they could take one. We sold a ton, and they made some great money for their charities. This was an awesome corporate party, and I look forward to working with Genworth again.
