Mikael and Suzanne had their ceremony and reception in Sea Island, GA at the amazing hotel The Cloister. This was definitely one of the nicest places I’ve played. The day started with an outdoor ceremony and then a cocktail hour with a trio playing great classical renditions of songs by everyone from The Beatles and other rock artists (think Vitamin String Quartet). At the end of cocktails, the guests made their way into the club room where I had music playing. The guests were seated as I introduced the maid of honor, flowergirl and best man followed by the new Mr. and Mrs. Andersson to “Marry You” by Bruno Mars! The couple then welcomed the guests that had come from literally all over the world-Sweden, Canada, Jamaica, and even Turkey!

The dinner looked amazing and we had two great toasts after the first course, and then a couple more at the end of dinner. All were excellent! After that, I asked everyone to head back outside to the large chess board/dance floor for the couple’s first dance to L.O.V.E. by Nat King Cole. It was perfect! Next, they did dances with parents to “Unforgettable” and then a few more family dances to “The Way You Look Tonight”. Guests were then treated to a massive dessert bar as I started the dance party back in the ballroom. From the first song to the last, these folks partied! Mikael and Suzanne did a great job of putting together a playlist that would appeal to everyone and for three straight hours I rocked it! What a great time, and I’m so glad I made the 6 hour trip! I have to give a shout out to Shay Brown who actually recommended they call me to DJ!

Rachel Rose and KJ had their ceremony and reception at Chapel Hill’s amazing Carolina Inn on Saturday. The weather was a little windy and cool for this time of year, but at least no rain! The day started off with a great ceremony! They had a Catholic ceremony a few days before, and this one was Jewish. The rabbi had an incredible voice and the music by Arioso Strings was perfect. As the ceremony ended in Bryan Courtyard, the guests made their way to the other side of the hotel to the area just outside the Hill Ballroom for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

I was all set up and waiting inside when the main doors opened at around 7:00pm. After lining up the bridal party in the hallway, we were ready for the intros to U2′s “Beautiful Day”. KJ and Rachel Rose entered to thunderous applause and went right into their first dance “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond. I’ve played that song hundreds of times, but not as the first dance, but you know what? It worked! Everyone was clapping right along! Next, Rachel Rose and her father danced to “I Loved Her First” and then KJ danced with mother to “Blessed” by Elton John. After a little while with his mom, he invited in his two aunts to dance with him as well. It was very sweet!

Dinner started after a brief welcome from the father of the bride. They had several amazing courses, so it took a little while, but was well worth it. After dinner, we had the cake cutting (Cinda’s Cakes-the cinnamon one was amazing) and toasts from three people (all whom were excellent). Once we were done with the formalities, it was time to PARTY! As is tradition at most Jewish weddings, we started with the Hora, a traditional dance forming a ring of guests around the newlyweds and than raising them up in chairs! It was havoc and a great way to open up the dance floor. And from that first song on, it was three straight hours of folks on the dance floor! That place was jumping, especially the last half hour going into the club music. Rachel Rose was screaming “one more hour!” when I stopped at midnight! The night finally ended with “Devil with a Blue Dress” since they both went to Duke, and then guests made their way outside for their big exit! Gina and Whitney from A Southern Soiree did a killer job of keeping this event right on schedule, I mean almost to the minute! Amazing. I am looking forward to the photos from Cristobal Perez with Azul Photography. He is one of my favorites and his work is always outstanding! I’ll post some here!

Joe and Maddy’s reception took place last Saturday at Durham’s Cafe Parizade. It was a lovely day for the ceremony which actually took place outside in the courtyard area behind the restaurant. I played the music which was amazing! Check out these choices. Bridal Party-”In Love with a Girl” by Gavin Degraw, Processional-”Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica, Recessional-”Thunderstruck” by AC/DC. What a rocking way to start the day! After the short ceremony, cocktails and food were flowing. I played music for about an hour and then guests made their way inside for the dinner portion of the night.

I introduced the couple into the room to AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell”! Since Joe and Maddy were friends with the owner, they customized an amazing menu. The food looked awesome. After everyone had something to eat, we moved into the toasts from the best man and maid of honor, and a short while after that, the couple got their lovely tiered cake. Finally, it was time to move back outside where Joe & Maddy went into their first dance, “Sweet Baby” by Macy Gray. I went right into dance music after that for about an hour. At around 9:00, it was time for the “special guest”. I had know about this for many months and was so excited I could hardly contain it. Joe and Maddy hired Ed Kowalczyk from the band Live to do a 45 minute acoustic set! First off, if you don’t know of this band, start downloading! They are incredible, and man, Ed still has it! He ran through all of his hits and even did a couple of his newer solo songs. I was spellbound and loving every minute of it. For a while I forgot I was the DJ. Finally, at the end of his last song he goes “Lets get the DJ back on” and I was like “Oh, me?” Ha! I got right back into it though and the crowd partied hard until the last song at 11:00. What a killer reception! Thanks to Amanda with A Swanky Affair for getting them to book me, and for keeping the party moving all night long. I can’t wait to see the video from the team at Heart Stone Films and the photos from Riley McLean!

Jason and Sneha actually already had a multi-day wedding in India a month or so ago, but this was their big American debut and it was an amazing celebration! The day started with cocktails on the front porch of the historic Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill. I don’t think that the weather could have been more perfect and Spring-like. It was amazing! Guests had cocktails and passed food for about an hour before I made the announcement to move inside to the gorgeous Hill Ballroom.

As the almost 270 guests entered, I went out and met Jason and Sneha for the first time since Jason’s mom had been my main point of contact. They were great and very excited to get the party going! I introduced the man and maid of honor and then the bride and groom to “Sing Sing Sing” by Benny Goodman. The room was packed and went crazy when they made their entrance. They they went right into their first dance “Moondance” by Van Morrison. The father of the groom next gave a welcome and also introduced the parents of the bride and then his friend who gave a lovely blessing. Next up, dinner time! There was tons of food around the room and even outside the ballroom. It looked amazing!

As dinner ended, Jason and Sneha cut a beautiful cake by Ashley Cakes. Three people gave great toasts after the cake cutting, and then we went right into the parent dances. Sneha and her dad danced to “Daughter” by Loudon Wainwright and Jason and his mom dance to “Have I Told You Lately” by Rod Stewart. At the end of that dance, we did the Anniversary Dance to “Unforgettable” where the last couple dancing had been married forty years. This really kicked off the party and it was on for the next two hours straight. They didn’t really give me a playlist, but just let me “do my thing”! It was a great time, and at the conclusion I played “Home” by Phillip Phillips as their request for a last song and then sent everyone to the front of the hotel to send them off under a shower of bubbles in their rickshaw. What a perfect ending to a perfect day! Check out these amazing photos from photographer Perry Vaile Photograpy!

This past Saturday I went back to 8th grade, well sort of. Michael and Kristen’s reception took place at Charles L. Coon Middle School in Wilson, NC, where I went to 8th grade almost 30 years ago! The building was closed the day after we left 8th grade and stayed closed for many years. I thought that they would tear it down, but eventually someone saved it and turned it into apartments and the auditorium became a place that you could rent out for events. Check out my iPhone photos. I am so glad that they didn’t tear it down! What history this building has. My mother, as a little girl, saw Elvis Presley rock the very stage where I was standing. Incredible. It’s also incredible how many memories come rushing back when you enter an old school that you went to. The first thing that I recalled when I looked down that corridor (pictured) was that I was in the lunchroom when I heard about the space shuttle Challenger exploding. Anyway, I’ve gotten WAY off topic, let’s talk about the fun stuff, this wedding!

I have known Michael his whole life. My parents and his parents are great friends. He is a bit younger than I am, but we have stayed in touch and run into each other over the years. I met Kristen earlier this year at their engagement party. They are both great people and make a cute couple! The day started with drinks and food for everyone for about an hour. Once the bridal party arrived, I lined them up and introduced them to JT’s “Suit & Tie”. As the couple entered, everyone went nuts as they went right into their first dance “Make You Feel My Love” by Adele. After that, Kristen danced with her dad to “Butterfly Kisses” and then Michael and his mom danced to “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts. The father of the bride gave a brief welcome and then it was a little more food and drink before I opened up the dance floor.

The dancing mix was all over the place, from beach music classics to Top 40 to old school rap and even Darius Rucker’s version of “Wagon Wheel”. Everyone was partying! It was a great time and I even got to see tons of old friends and lots of Bunns-my mom, dad, cousins, and uncle were all in the house! What a great time. I love Wilson! Congrats to the new Mr. and Mrs. Dempsey!

I mean, it was absolutely gorgeous! And so, of course, the cocktail hour was outside where guests where greeted by great music (by me) and amazing food (by the Angus Barn). Once everyone had a few drinks, I asked them to come inside for the introductions. The parents came in to Natalie Cole’s “This Will Be An Everlasting Love” and the rest of the bridal party danced in to “Say Hey” by Michael Franti. This set the mood for the whole party. I could tell this was going to be a good one!

Trish and Jon did their first dance right after the introductions to a slighty sped up version of “At Last” by Etta James. For two soldiers, they danced like stars! I loved it! Next up, Trish and her dad danced to the theme song from “The Little Princess” movie that apparently was watched alot in the Todd household as she and her sisters grew up! Finally, Jon and his mother danced to the classic “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. Next up, Mr. Todd, the father of the bride, really nailed a welcome speech that had the entire room cracking up, and then Trish’s aunt gave a lovely blessing. The food stations opened up after that, and I can speak from experience here, the food was amazing! Wow. I almost overdid it.

Coming out of dinner, the best man and maid of honor both gave perfect toasts and then Trish and Jon made their way to the other end of the room to cut an AMAZINGly huge and lovely cake. That thing was beast! Once the cake cutting was done, it was party time! Several of the guest made their way back outside for s’mores and the amazing weather, but I eventually lured everyone in with every type of music possible. I went from Zac Brown to Usher to Robert Earl Keen and all the way around again. It was a great mix of music for everyone. This couple did a great job creating their playlist. The only break I gave the dancers was for the bouquet toss (“Jump” by the Pointer Sisters) and garter toss (“Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen). Then, right back to party rocking! The night ended with several of their requests including “My Best Friend” by Tim McGraw…but it just didn’t feel right to end it there. Seeing as how alot of the folks were from Boston, and it was almost St. Patrick’s Day, it was only right to rock out to “Shipping Up To Boston” by Dropkick Murphys before sending the guests out to line up for the sparkler exit. What a perfect ending to a perfect night!

As always, the Angus Barn did their thing, but Priscilla and Kristen with Orangerie Events were also on hand as the event’s wedding planners, and they did a remarkable job of making everything not only look beautiful, but keeping the event almost perfectly on schedule (which is no small feat in this business). Heart Stone Films, my favorite video team in the world, were on hand shooting every moment and I’m sure that trailer will be fantastic! And lastly, a young lady I had never met, Perry Vaile, photographed the day. Check out the photos! What a great team on this wedding! Congrats to the new Mr. and Mrs. Smith!
