The Bride and Groom met when they both spent two years in Kenya with the Peace Corps. This was a transformative and powerful experience for them both to say the least, and they wanted to bring some of those experiences to their wedding through the music for both the ceremony and reception. Elizabeth and Henry had their ceremony on the White Bridge Lawn, which was the perfect backdrop on such a beautiful day.
After the beautiful ceremony, the guests made their way to the Veranda for cocktail hour. Having a good idea of the Bride and Groom’s musical tastes, I played a mix of 60’s / 70’s, soul, and alternative rock, such as The Lumineers and Citizen Cope. I then introduced the wedding party and the new Mr. and Mrs. Bennett, who then had their first dance as husband and wife, followed by the parent dances and cake cutting. After dinner and some entertaining and heartfelt speeches by the Maids of Honor and Best Men, we opened up the dance floor. I played a mix of classic party songs but also threw in some great classic hip-hop songs such as No Diggity and Let Me Clear My Throat and some dance songs like We Found Love by Rihanna. Later in the evening, I mixed in some special, popular African songs from the Bride and Groom’s Peace Corps experience and they along with several of the bridesmaids rushed to the middle of the dance floor immediately!
We ended the night with Take Me Home Tonight, capping off a beautiful night. Elizabeth and Henry then exited to sparkles and I Lived by OneRepublic.
Thank you again Elizabeth and Henry! It was an honor to be your DJ, and congratulations again to the new Mr. & Mrs. Bennett!
P.S. – Thanks for wearing the shirts… and horseback riding nonetheless…amazing!
