Chris and Emory’s reception took place at the unique and lovely Cypress Manor in Cary on the last day of August. I actually knew Chris well since he taught my son in the 2nd grade last year. They were married downtown and then the guests arrived around 3:00 for an early afternoon reception. I was waiting with music playing and drinks and food were flowing. Once the bridal party arrived, I went outside to line them up for the big introduction to Heavy D’s “Now That We Found Love”. Chris and Emory then went into their first dance, a fast song, but they pulled it off “Say Hey” by Michael Franti. It was a great way to start the day!
Next, Emory’s father welcomed everyone and one of their friends gave a lovely blessing. The food stations opened up next, and I played a few more background songs, but I could tell it was time for dancing. But before we could do that, Chris and Emory shared a couple of cupcakes to kick off the opening of the dessert bar (cobbler!). Emory then danced with her father to an amazing mix that DJ Randy Bennett made for me. It was a mix of “My Girl” into “Harlem Shake” and back to “My Girl”! They pulled it off and her dad was such a great sport. Chris and his mother danced to “Forever Young” by Rod Stewart and then it was open dancing. I went into their excellent playlist and added a few more songs from my hot list and it was on! It didn’t matter that it was the middle of the day, these people came to dance! The only break was for a quick bouquet toss. The ending was a big sing-along to “Sweet Caroline” and then a departure with the guests lining the ramp to the exit. A great wedding! Congrats to the new Mr. and Mrs. Jepsen! Special thanks to Amanda with Your Special Day for keeping the day running on schedule. I can’t wait to see more photos from Scott Clevenger.
