Let me tell you about the sweet couple that is Samantha and Will. (And if I don’t, Samantha will kill me because she told me that she had better see herself on the blog!) A couple for more than 8 years, this wedding was simply a formality. But to look at them, you’d think that they have been dating about 2 weeks. Joined at the hip, you never saw one without the other! They are VERY much in love!
They ceremony was at the beautiful Governor’s Club in Chapel Hill, and a fall afternoon where the skies were threatening to drag the whole affair indoors. But the drops held away for the most part, and we started the prelude music with traditional classical wedding music. Rev. Ed Sansbury officiated the ceremony, and the Bridal Party entered to The Allman Brothers Band’s “Little Martha”. Next, Samantha entered down the exterior staircase to “Lullaby” by the Dixie Chicks. The newly married couple recessed to “This Heart I Know” from Westward the Tide. The couple and family proceeded out to take some family photos while the guests headed upstairs to just outside the ballroom for the social hour.
Once the photos were taken, the guests entered the ballroom the introductions were in order. The song chosen was a remix version of “M83” by Midnight City, and as the couple entered I began to see another side to Will. Once this very calm and easy going guy became a dancing maniac! Samantha and Will immediately went into their first dance to “She Lit a Fire” by Lord Huron, which was completely choreographed! Awesome! Next up was the Father/Daughter dance to Loudon Wainwright III’s “Daughter”, and the Groom/Mother dance to Toy Story’s “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” by Randy Newman. (Such personality! I love that they used it!) Will and Samantha then stepped up to the mic to give the welcome and for the first time in DJ history: Will even gave me a shout out! **No pressure there!!
Our photographer, Graham Terhune set up their shot of the couple cutting the Confectionate Cakes created masterpiece, while I readied the first dance tunes. This crowd wasted no time flooding the floor, and the night was jamming! Before I knew it, the lights were almost off and someone was tying glow necklaces around my headphones! Sunglasses were given to me and it was rave time!
Will and Samantha did not give me a last song of the evening to play, but as soon as I saw “Wagon Wheel” by Old Crow Medicine Show on the playlist, I knew that was it! The crowd went nuts and it rounded out an awesome wedding! Thanks you guys for having me at your awesome wedding!
