Popular Asheville Events & Attractions

If you’re planning a wedding or other special occasion during one of these events, be sure to book guest accommodations and excursions as early as possible.

  • Asheville is synonymous with the Biltmore, George W. Vanderbilt’s winter estate. This 250-room castle is America’s largest home and boasts 8000 acres of manicured grounds. Each spring, more than 130,000 flowers bloom. Both self and guided tours are available, including a “behind the scenes” tour. Enjoy a complimentary wine tasting at the Biltmore Winery before stopping by Antler Hill Village for a live art demonstration or musical performance. And there’s always a robust calendar of events.
  • As seen in many southern cities today, the former warehouses of Asheville have been converted into artists’ studios known as the River Arts District. Here, your out-of-town guests can watch artisans at work, find the perfect piece for a collection or participate in an immersive program. They will also find popular restaurants and a brewery.
  • Did you know that Asheville enjoys the nickname “the happiest city in America”? Whether it’s the streets of downtown, on the banks of the French Broad River, or nestled in a mountain meadow, music, and festivals are a big part of Asheville’s culture. A prime example of the city’s Blue Ridge heritage is the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival in August. As the nation’s longest-running folk festival, your out-of-town guests will discover the premier event for old-time and bluegrass music.
  • Your guests can also experience traditional mountain music and dancing with Shindig on the Green. Throughout summer Saturday evenings, visitors and residents can enjoy these cultural traditions for free at Pack Square Park in downtown Asheville.
  • Have some foodies on your guest list? Each August Asheville plays host to the annual Wine & Food Festival. Featuring over 100 restaurants, bars, and producers all under one roof, your guests will sample the best culinary offerings while meeting local chefs and farmers. To complete the festival, sign up for one of the many food tours. Sample local flavors and learn about Asheville’s history.
  • September finds more culinary adventures with the Chow Chow Food Festival. Dinners, workshops, performances, tastings and more take place across the city. This festival brings together locally and nationally recognized chefs, farmers, millers, bakers, artists, brewers, beverage makers, and more.
  • Your guests who love the outdoors will be at home in Asheville. They’ll find hiking trails to mountaintops and waterfalls and enjoy biking on secluded trails. There’s fishing in clear streams and kayaking along the French Broad River. Enjoy the scenery of the Blue Ridge Parkway or visit Mount Mitchell, the highest mountain east of the Mississippi.
