• Pick your favorite driver, past or present, and you’ll probably find a NASCAR museum, or at least a significant display, in their honor. And if some of your guests have a need for speed, send them over to GoPro Motoplex for some laps in carts capable of going over 55 mpg.
• The town celebrates its love of racing each May with the Race City Festival, drawing 25,000 visitors. The free outdoor event features NASCAR displays, live music, food trucks, and a beer garden. And in the fall, coinciding with the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame induction ceremony is the Mooresville Motorsports Celebration.
• Taking a leisurely cruise around Lake Norman in a pontoon boat makes a relaxing guest or wedding party outing. And those more adventurous will find speed boats and jet skis for rent. Lake Norman is also known for its fishing.
• History-loving guests will enjoy a self-guided tour around downtown Mooresville. And located in the old train depot, your guests will enjoy viewing works in all media at Mooresville Arts. The center hosts juried exhibits throughout the year and there’s a gallery shop with over 400 works of art. Twice yearly, downtown businesses host wine and beer tastings during an Art Walk where local artists display and sell their works.
• Speaking of tastings, Mooresville has an ever-expanding collection of breweries, wineries, and distilleries. Consider putting together a tour for your guests. You may even want to include a stop by one of the town’s premier cigar lounges.
• Animal lovers can appreciate the mission of the Lazy 5 Ranch and its responsibility for caring for endangered species like the Grevy Zebra, Scimitar Horned Oryx, and Ring-tailed Lemur. Lazy 5 is home to over 750 animals from six different continents. Visitors take a horse-drawn wagon ride through the ranch and then stop by the petting zoo to feed the animals.
• Rounding out our Mooresville favorites is the Festival of Food Trucks, held the first Saturday, April – October. From 5:30-8 pm, hang out downtown, taste some delicious gourmet food, and listen to live music.
