Jenna and Riky’s Virginia Farm Wedding

I always love DJing barn weddings because it gives me a chance to get out of Richmond city and see a lot more of the countryside in Virginia. The weather was questionable but despite that when I arrived at Big Spring Farm in Lexington to DJ for Jenna and Riky’s wedding, I was impressed with how beautiful the venue was, even with overcast skies!

The Wedding Ceremony

Jenna and Riky got married just up the hill from the barn and had a classical duo providing the music. The backdrop had great decorations from Bloom By Doyles and the sunlight peeked out just a little during the ceremony!

The Reception

Before the wedding party and guests headed down from the ceremony, I got a chance to chat with the great people at A Little Party Events as I got ready to DJ the reception. Both Jenna and Riky had broad music tastes so their wedding playlist had everything from some acoustic indie rock and Motown up to AC/DC and indie electro like Justice and Chromeo!

The wedding party entered to an oldie – “Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows” and then Jenna and Riky came into M83’s “Midnight City”, one of my personal favorite entry song requests! Keeping in turn with the indie choices they had their first dance to Ben Folds’ song “The Luckiest”.

Jenna and Riky gave a welcome before dinner started and I played a mix of their song choices as well as my own DJ choices, sticking with the indie rock vibe as closely as possible. Toasts came after dinner and then Jenna and Riky cut the cake and guests got cupcakes, all made by Sweet Treats Bakery.

We opened the dance floor with a few classic Motown songs and standards for the older folks and then worked into the real party. By the end of the night, I could hear some guests singing along to You Shook Me All Night Long, and to top off the evening, we ended with the wedding party bouncing up and down to “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” by the Darkness – I’m sure the amazing Sam Hurd got some great photos!

This was a great wedding to DJ – Jenna and Riky were a wonderful couple to DJ for and it’s always fantastic to be teamed up with other amazing professionals.

Bunn DJ Company Virginia believes DJing is more than just showing up and pressing play. It’s also more than just knowing how to choose songs and mix them together. Being Richmond area wedding DJs is about creating experiences and atmospheres. That’s what our DJing philosophy boils down to. We don’t want to just provide the perfect music. We want to create the perfect day. That’s why we excel in what we do. And this wedding was a perfect example of that. Working with this awesome couple to create the day they envisioned is something we’ll never forget. And it’s a service we provide at all our weddings again and again.
